DESCRIPTION

Available in grey or white., and in regular or medium-bed formulas.

Raeco Poly-Set Polymer Modified Thinset Mortar is a single component, premium grade, polymer fortified thinset mortar; consisting of a uniform, premixed blend of portland cement and graded washed silica aggregates with polymer modification to promote flexibility and promote lasting surface adhesion.

Poly-Set is designed to be mixed with water, no other liquid additive is required. For greater flexibility and strength, add Raeco-Set latex binder to powder in lieu of water. Poly-Set is designed for setting all types of ceramic tile (wall and floor), over a wide variety of surfaces.,

SURFACE PREPARATION

Surfaces to be covered must be structurally sound, clean and free of dust, oil, grease, sealers, curing compounds, laitance, release agents or other surface contaminants. For smooth surfaces, we recommend mechanical abrasion to achieve an acceptable surface profile. The cleaning and preparation method selected depends on both the sub-floor material and its condition. Acid etching is not recommended.

MIXING

Raeco Poly-Set is mixed by adding clean water or Raeco-Set latex binder at a rate of 5.5 quarts of water (5.23 liters) for each 50 lb. bag (22.5 kg.) of dry powder. Water or Raeco-Set latex binder should be added to the mixing container first, then the Poly-Set powder.

Using a mixing paddle (a whip type is recommended) with a low speed drill (400 to 500 rpm), mix thoroughly (2 to 3 minutes) until the powder has been completely dispersed and the mix has acquired a smooth homogeneous texture. Allow the mixture to slake (stand) for 15 minutes, then re-mix before applying to surface. The pot life for the material is approximately 1 hour under normal conditions. It is recommended to mix only the amount of Poly-Set that can be applied within that amount of time.

APPLICATION

Apply a thin coat of Raeco Poly-Set with the flat edge of the trowel to achieve good mechanical bond to the substrate. Comb mortar with the appropriate size notched trowel. Re-comb mortar if any evidence of skinning or setting occurs. Do not spread more mortar than can be covered in 20 to 30 minutes. It is a good practice to re-mix the mortar occasionally during use. Apply tile using a twisting motion into the fresh bed of Poly-Set. For maximum adhesion, promptly beat tile into mortar. A finished mortar bed thickness of 3/32" (2.38 mm.) to 1/8" (3.17 mm.) after setting tile is needed. Periodically check back of tile to ensure proper transfer of mortar to tile. A minimum of 90% mortar transfer to tile is required.

Traffic should be kept off the installation for a minimum of 24 hours, under normal conditions. High lugged back tiles require more mortar and therefore take a longer time to set before grouting.

NOTE: When setting granite, marble and other large dimension tile and stone, request Raeco Poly-Set “Medium Bed" Polymer Modified Thinset Mortar.

LIMITATIONS

Do not apply directly over gypsum-based underlayments, vinyl covered wall board, Masonite, particle board, asphalt or vinyl sheeting, metal, plastic, glass, strip wood flooring, or plywood in outdoor applications. Consult Raeco’s Technical Service Department for proper application over above substrates. Apply only in temperatures above 40° F. (4.4° C.), and do not allow the thinset mortar to freeze within 72 hours of installation.

WARNING

Raeco Poly-Set contains Portland cement and silica sand. Use of a dust respirator, safety goggles and rubber gloves are recommended. In case of contact with eyes, immediately flush with water and consult a physician. Avoid hazards by following all precautions found in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), product labels and technical literature. Please read this information prior to using product.
